Presentation
The third edition of the SBRC 2020 Dissertation Digest (CTD @ SBRC 2020) aims to select and award the best doctoral theses and the best master’s dissertations in the area.
We invite computer networking and distributed systems researchers to submit a paper that summarizes the results obtained in their Ph.D. thesis and M.Sc. dissertations, defended and approved between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019. CTD @ SBRC 2020 will award the three best theses and the three best dissertations.
Topics of Interest
The topics of the Ph.D. thesis and M.Sc. dissertation must be those in the area of computer networking and distributed systems, including but not limited to the ones enumerated in the main track call for papers.
Authors Instructions
Papers must be written either in Portuguese or English, in the form of an extended abstract, and must be limited to a maximum of 8 pages, including figures, references, and appendix. The text formatting must follow the guidelines of the SBC paper template (http://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/category/169-templates-para-artigos-e-capitulos-de-livros).
The author must clearly state the contribution of the work to the area, and highlight its originality. The text must necessarily include the title of the Ph.D. thesis or M.Sc. dissertation, author’s names, advisor and co-advisor(s) with their respective affiliations, abstract (and “resumo” for papers written in Portuguese), problem characterization and motivation, objectives and contributions, related work, results obtained, and by-products (for example, scientific publications, patents, registered programs, as well as any other elements that qualify the author’s investigation).
Submissions will be made through JEMS.
Each submission must contain three files: (1) extended abstract (up to 8 pages), (2) accredited minutes of the PhD thesis/M.Sc. dissertation defense, and (3) full text of the thesis or dissertation. The minutes of the defense must explicitly state that the candidate defended the work and that it was approved, and must inform the location where the thesis/dissertation defense occurred, date of the defense, name of the advisor, and names of the members of the defense committee. All documents must be in PDF format.
Evaluation
At least three members of the CTD @ SBRC 2020 evaluation committee will evaluate each work and analyze the documents submitted by the authors. After the review and analysis phase, members of the evaluation committee will start a discussion phase, for the selection of accepted papers.
The selected papers (6 Ph.D.-level papers and 6 M.Sc.-level papers) will be published in the SBRC 2020 proceedings, and the thesis/dissertation author must present his/her work during the symposium. For award purposes, the evaluation committee will take into account the complete work, including potential and already generated scientific and technical results/output, as well as the impact in the area of computer networking and distributed systems (the presentation itself will not be considered for the award; however, all selected papers must be presented in person). The prize for the three best candidates in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony during the SBRC 2020 social event.
